Episode 14 – Quiet Thursday Night

April 9, 2009 - 11:40 pm No Comments

Here’s a quick episode brought to you in part by an unusually quiet dorm hallway. To be honest, it’s short for a reason: I was not in the mood to podcast. Every topic I touch on I breeze through quickly due to lethargicness. It’s episodes like these that demotivate me. Show notes:

  • Filming a TV show. There’s a right way and a wrong way to do it.
  • Group processing. Contrived interview process.
  • Chungking Express. My opinions on the new Criterion Collection DVD rerelease.
  • Cinema Appreciation Club. I’m not sure if it can even really be called a “club.”
  • It’s over. Sorry. At least I ended it early and didn’t attempt to keep going.

Episode 13 – Autotuned Anger

March 17, 2009 - 12:42 am 2 Comments

This episode of Stationary Joystick is fueled by hatred! Maybe not to the extent that Jackie’s latest episode is, but I still get pretty passionate about my hatred for some rather trivial things. Show notes:

  • Some talk about podcasting. Yeah, we podcasters enjoy talking about podcasting. Check out 60Hz to listen to what I’ve been up to instead of recording this cast. Also, making a podcast studio!
  • Accepted. I’m pretty excited, but there’s a lot to take care of because of this recent development in my life.
  • Facebook’s new layout. People need to learn the concept of a learning curve.
  • Autotune. Overused by under-talented people, notably T-Pain!

Episode 12 – He’s Just Not That Into Your Podcast

February 9, 2009 - 11:32 pm 1 Comment

This episode sponsored in part by a renewed interest in Tuesday due to history class being canceled for tomorrow.

  • Trying not to be an asshole. That’s the goal.
  • He’s Just Not That Into You. But I’m totally into Ginnifer Goodwin.
  • The Tilted Kilt. Awkward times were had.
  • Push. You’ll probably feel like you’ve seen this before.
  • Geography of China. Almost as tangential as this podcast.
  • Trance music is good for night time driving. House music is great for airplane takeoffs and landings. Believe it.

Experimental Henna Joystick Beyond – Episode 1

February 6, 2009 - 11:11 am No Comments

Instead of the usual Stationary Joystick fare, here is episode one of the skypecast I did with Jackie (Twinkie Beyond), Simon (Experimental Life Wondercast) and Julian (Henna Outfit). The whole thing is pretty tangential because we didn’t have any specific topics prepared. Enjoy, pok guy!

Episode 11 – The Asian History Class

January 21, 2009 - 4:50 pm 4 Comments

In this episode, I hate on anime kids, so I apologize if you’re one of the few anime fans who is cool and doesn’t act like they’re 12 years old (and if you’re listening to this, I’m guessing you are one of those said cool people, so good on you). Actually, that’s pretty much it in terms of content. Somehow my rant lasted just over a half hour…

  • Central Wisconsin vs. Southern Wisconsin. They’re incredibly different…actually, maybe not.
  • Fast Times at China Buffet. Still better than this podcast.
  • Inauguration. I don’t really care about politics, so I did the very least I could do.
  • My East Asian History class. A huge rant (encompassing over half the episode) about why I’m already not such a fan of that class. Anime kids ruining my shit!

Check out the Twitter for more SJ-esque fun.

Episode 10 – Introducing Jon

January 6, 2009 - 12:03 am No Comments

This week must be filled with awesomeness, because here comes a bonus episode of Stationary Joystick! My brother Jon and I recorded this when we were driving out to our other brother’s house in Oconomowoc/Delafield. I recorded this on my iRiver T10, and the quality is somewhat dubious as a result (the T10 seems to be really crappy at recording in a moving vehicle; remember the driving episode I couldn’t release?). Still, we have a decent conversation (in my opinion), so I decided to post it anyway. We discuss topics such as:

  • Five Guys…walk into a bar.
  • Jon’s work life, even though he doesn’t want to talk about it.
  • Life after priesthood.
  • Takeshi Kitano’s Sonatine and the craziness of Quentin Tarentino.
  • Going to the dentist.
  • Books we read in high school English class.
  • Where did the name Stationary Joystick come from?

So, hopefully you enjoy it, but I apologize if you find the crap quality ruins it for you. I’m going to try to upgrade the portable podcast setup for future episodes…

Episode 9 – I Didn’t Know The History of The Titanic

January 5, 2009 - 1:49 am No Comments

The Winter Break ‘09 extravaganza continues here on Stationary Joystick! The summation of this episode is that I get pissed at an “iceberg.” That’s quality podcasting. Show notes:

As always, hit up the Twitter! Fuck icebergs!

Episode 8 – Winter Break-ish

December 22, 2008 - 12:05 am 1 Comment

Podcasting for the sake of consistency! This episode of Stationary Joystick marks the beginning of slightly better audio quality on the cast, but not better content quality. Some things I gloss over in this episode:

Episode 7 – Scanners!

December 12, 2008 - 1:54 am 1 Comment

As impossible as it might seem, here is another episode of Stationary Joystick, only a week after the last one was put out! Originally this episode was going to be fueled by rage a la Twinkie Beyond, but I calmed down before I started casting. I still talk about what made me angry, but in a more sedated manner. Other topics and tangents include the David Cronenberg movie “Scanners” and what happens to friendship when everyone lives in different parts of the state.

P.S. – At the end of the episode, I attempted to list off and thank everyone who listens to this podcast, but evidently I forgot Simon of The Wondercast. Forgiveness please!

Episode 6 – Red Cliff

December 6, 2008 - 2:18 am No Comments

For some reason, right before I was going turn in for the evening, I got the urge to podcast. Almost like a need to podcast, if for nothing else than to feel some catharsis. I think it’s a decent episode (by this podcast’s standards, anyway). I talk a lot about the pressure to succeed and meet/exceed expectations, and I go off on a few random tangents about dorm life and Chinese films as well.

As I said in the show, check out Fast Times at China Buffet as well, and, as always, hit me up on Twitter!
